idt TER.PLT Terrain plot

Hi,

I am doing the case study SOC for which I am using the portland group compiler
 in amd64 machine. I completed all the process for the TERRAIN and which seems
okay. But when I try to see the plot using the command $ ../idt TER.PLT (as
tutorial says), I often get the message:

Error: Can't open display

The idt is located in /home/rkr32/Desktop/ncarg/bin/idt
The TER.PLT is the file generated in TERRAIN folder having 979200 size.

I tried for both - precompiled binary and source code compilation of the NCAR
Graphics.

Has anybody the same problem? Could you please help me what would be the
solution for this. Thanks in advance for your help.
