Steve,

"wrfout_d0x...." is a netCDF file of forecast output. If you want to
look at the data in graphical form with NCARG, you will want to use RIP4
or NCL scripts (see the WRF-ARW website: www.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users -->
Model System --> WRF Graphic Tools.
