I was able to use the "convert" tool from ImageMagick to convert a PS file to xwd. Here's what I did:

ctrans -d ps.color gmeta > gmeta.ps
convert gmeta.ps gmeta.xwd

You can get "convert" and the rest of the ImageMagick tools from:

http://www.imagemagick.org/

I use "convert" all the time, to convert from one format to another. It's especially handy if I need to resize an image, rotate it, trim the white space, etc, before I import the file into a web page or PowerPoint document.
