Steve,
It sounds like your environment hasn't been set up correctly to use
NCAR Graphics. For one, you need to add the location of the "idt" and
"ictrans" executables to your search path.

for information on how to set up your search path, and to also make
sure you have your NCARG_ROOT environment variable set correctly.
