Joe,

Your suggestion is a good one, and I'll see that it gets
implemented. It was a part of the build process several years ago, but
we eventually removed it when we felt safe that all compilers were
correctly dealing with blockdata initialization statements.

It also used to be part of the "ncargf77" script, which is a script
that you can use like "f77", except it does the additional thing of
loading in the NCAR Graphics libraries in the correct order. I think
at one time, it was an option to "ncargf77" that you could
set and "ncarbd.o" would be included on the compile line. We will
reinstitute this.
