You are not providing nearly enough information for us to help you.

What kind of errors are you getting? Is this a Fortran program, a C program, or an NCL script?

If you are dealing with GRIB data, I very highly recommend that you use NCL, and not a C or Fortran program. NCL can read GRIB files directly, and you can then easily plot them.

Here are a couple of simple examples that reads a GRIB file and plots some data using an NCL script:

This is for ERA40 data, but really, you can apply the same principles to other GRIB files.
