TDPACK and colors

I may have asked this question before, but I can't find any
record of it. I apologize if I have.

I'm using TDPACK to produce isosurfaces of my data. It is working well.
The only problem is that it appears to be very limited on the number of
colors that can be generated. There is the concept of number of layers
and number of shades where the number of layers corresponds to the
number of colors and the number of shades is the number of shades of
each color. Apparently the limit of nlayers times nshades is 256
(roughly). Is there a way to increase this? It would certainly make
the isosurfaces look much better if you could increase the number of
shades and leave the number of colors the same. Right now I can have 32
colors and only 7 shades of each color.

Thanks,

Joe
