I just downloaded the Linux binary NCARG/NCL packages for "gcc4" -- both
the 32-bit package for i686 and the 64-bit package for x86_64 (I have
both kinds of machines currently running CentOS 5.2). I was surprised
to discover that the ncargf77 and ncargf90 scripts in the 32-bit package
were both using the g77 compiler (which I thought was "gcc3" not "gcc4")
instead of the gfortran compiler. These same two scripts in the 64-bit
package both use the gfortran compiler as expected. I would like to use
the gfortran compiler on both kinds of machines.
(1) I can understand why the g77 compiler would be used for the "gcc3"
packages, but why was it used for the 32-bit "gcc4" package?
(2) Can the gfortran compiler be used with the 32-bit "gcc4" binary
package? How?
Thanks for your help!
