Miriam,

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is generally for helping executables find
shared libraries, and not for compilation.

If you look at the man page for your compilers, it may have
a list of environment variables you can set that will cause
certain options to always be the default when you compile.
That way, you don't have to worry about getting them
on the actual compile line of the software.

I will await your make-output file and see if I can
tell anything from that,.
