Problem building ictrans with pgf90 and gcc

Dear NCAR Graphics users:

My group is attempting to build NCAR Graphics 4.3.1 on an Opteron x86_64 Beowulf cluster running Fedora 2.4.22-1.2197, and using pgf90 version 5.2-4 and gcc version 3.3.2. We have had some problems along the way, but the biggest one occurs when building ictrans. gcc complains about two unresolved symbols in libictrans -- "ftn_str_copy" and "pgf90_compiles" -- and we have found it necessary to add several libraries to the Makefile:

-lpgftnrtl -lpgc -lpgf90 -lpgf90_rpm1 -lpgf902 -lpghpf -lpgc -lm

An executable is successfully built with these changes, but we would like to know if anyone else has encountered this problem and has a more glamorous solution. I should add that we have not yet tried the examples to confirm that everything works.

Thank you,

Eric Kemp
