CLARIFICATION:

I had been assuming that the problem I just reported using ctrans lay in
my use of two plots, a raster plot and and overlay. But I just
eliminated the overlay from the plot and the region extracted using
ctrans is still incorrect, so it seems that the problem lies in
something that the use of routine CGA is doing - even though the gmeta
file looks correct, for some reason the correct viewport is not being
extracted from it by ctrans
