Reading a GRIB File With addfile

I'm new to NCAR Graphics and I have a problem. I'm trying
to read a GRIB file in an NCL script with the function addfile.
When I run the script it appears to find and at least begin
reading the file, but then gives me the error:

fatal:Workstation with PID#7 is not open

Does any know what this means?
