Time-series plots with NCAR Graphics?

Hi,

Does NCAR Graphics have a way of explicitly handling data that is a
function of time? Specifically, can it produce nicely labelled axes
that differentiate years, months, days, hours and minutes depending on
the range of data plotted?

If so, is this true for both NCAR Graphics 4.0.1 and 4.1?

If not, does anyone out there have a script or subroutine that will
use the drawing capabilities (basic GKS calls?) of NCAR Graphics to
incorporate time axes into NCAR Graphics plots?

Any information would be appreciated.
