Thank you everyone for your response to my question. The key for me is the quality of
the gif image. I had known about using ctrans to convert to a raster image (sun,
hdf, avs, xwd, etc) which can then be converted to gif using a variety of
utilities, but I was unaware of the ctrans option to control the resolution of
the image (i.e., -res 1024x1024). I am now quite pleased with the quality of the
image. It's nice to have control over the resolution.
