You are right about the "gnu convert" really being ImageMagik.
I was confused because it is under /usr/local/gnu on some of
our workstations.

.. I have just realied these discussions/replies are
PUBLIC to ncarg-talk and apologise for filling mailboxes
with them. I do want to note that I am NOT looking
at NCAR source for animation tool frameworks since that
is licensed software.
