The problem may be related to excessive smoothing being applied to the
contours which can result in the smoothed contours crossing over each
other. This will confuse the contour filling routines since the area
indentifiers get mixed up.

Test this by not smoothing the data:

   CALL CPSETR ('T2D', 0.0) <- should be the the default anyway.
